"Love your neighbour as yourself"
Mark 12:31
Helping our neighbours grow enough to eat
Around the world – despite farmers’ best efforts – crops are failing and families are going hungry - but there is hope and there is a solution.
Rejoice lives in South Sudan where devastating floods are destroying farmland but - thanks to the extraordinary generosity of the Catholic community at Fast Days - our local partners have been helping families like hers to develop ingenious solutions like floating gardens that can grow food above floodwaters.
You can listen to Rejoice tell her story in her own words in the video below.
In South Sudan there is too much water but in Zimbabwe, where rain is scarce, it is too little water that means families are going hungry. Shorai is a farmer and father in Zimbabwe who spoke of the guilt he felt watching his children go to bed without food. That was until our local experts helped him turn dry ground into fertile land by using drought-resistant crops and building a solar-powered water pump. He told us that: “A good neighbour is someone who can help me in periods of need.”
In God's eyes, we are one global family, called to be neighbours. Your support means more of our neighbours can put food on the table.
